Why Test Dry Forage for Nitrate?

Drought may cause stress in plants, encouraging excess nitrate uptake. Too much nitrate in livestock feed may lead to illness or even death, especially in:

How It Works

  • Prepare Samples: Grind or blend your dry forage samples. Add samples to collection tubes with water to extract nitrate.
  • Mix & React: Add buffer and 1 drop of each sample to prepared cuvettes.
  • Develop Color: Add color reagent and wait for reaction to complete.
  • Read Results: Compare color to chart or use optional photometer for precise readings.

Materials You Will Need

You will need a blender or grinder to prepare your samples, plus distilled water, measuring teaspoon, scissors, pen, and marker. Kit includes everything else you need to test.
