ANALYZING WATER FOR NITRATE AND PHOSPHATE

From drinking water to industrial effluents, get accurate data on-site or in the lab

Nitrate is a “primary contaminant” under the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water and Clean Water Acts. Phosphate measurement is required by many NPDES permits. Both nitrate and phosphate are important plant nutrients, but cause serious problems when too much ends up in our water. The US EPA has set maximum allowable levels for nitrate.

Excess nitrate – more than 10 ppm (ten milligrams per liter) is considered toxic to infants and many young animals. Excess nitrate or phosphate disrupts the environment, leading to algal blooms in fresh or salt water. Homeowners with shallow wells, dug wells, or wells with damaged or leaking casings should be most concerned with nitrate contamination, although it is recommended that anyone drinking well water monitor their water regularly for nitrate levels. NECi’s reagents for Labs are quantitative and cost effective. NECi’s Test-it-Yourself kits offer unbeatable accuracy. Try test kits for spot checks and lab reagents for compliance monitoring.
